The Weather Network/MeteoMedia Sun June 26 1994 Timmins Weather STAR 3000 offline
OUr Weather STAR 3000 was removed on Thu June 23 for 4 days in await of a replace part, after all the technical problems witnessed over many years beforehand. Our local Cable TV community channel displayed a notice to subscribers of technical problems until further notice. I had to explain to some friends and family that the programing was simply the Anik Satellite as usual, just our local weather is absent due to the missing piece at the cable head/office. Virtually, it's watching TWN/MeteoMedia on satellite for 4 days. AT the end, there is additional footage from MeteoMedia which accidentally pre-empted the Regional Forecast at :05 past the hour with Gwen Tolbart. The french video clip was an Earthwatch/WeatherNews story about Allergies and how many Quebec residents are affected.

Sports, Sex, Scandals, Weather: How News Media Competes
Complete video at: fora.tv A panel of experts discusses the benefits and challenges of increased competition in the world of news media. While journalist Christine Ockrent argues that competition decreases quality as well as profitability, others contend that it has allowed news outlets to address more "long tail" audiences. ----- The Paley Center for Media's International Council 2009 NYC brought together the industry's top innovators from across the globe for the most talked about media event of 2009. From newspapers to magazines to television, the traditional media business model is under siege. Can creating quality news content still be a sustainable business in the global digital economy? This session features Tony Burman (Managing Director, Al-Jazeera English), Les Hinton (CEO, Dow Jones), Jon Klein (President, CNN/US), Christine Ockrent (Journalist and CEO, Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France), and Prannoy Roy (President and Managing Director, NDTV). David Carr (Columnist, The New York Times) moderates.

From during a heavy thunderstorm, it's the local weather, but the satellite signal used for providing music went offline, leaving nothing but white noise on the channel.

Winnipeg - Environment Canada Weather channel (January 3, 1987)
Another rare clip found...it's completely the same to the clip from 1985, but LONGER. Based on my recent finds, I am guessing that scrolling text on the bottom of the screen was introduced sometime between 1987 and 1989

Winnipeg - Videon Weather/Airport info channel (September 23, 1999)
By September 23, 1999, Videon completely redesigned its new all-in-one info channel in order to create a clean look with larger fonts. Looking relatively similar to the old Environment Canada weather channel, you have the date/time and scrolling Videon info on the top grey part, weather forcast in the center blue part with the red box containing current conditions, and the airport departures/arrivals on the green bottom part, which would be shared with Manitoba highway conditions in the winter only. And that's how things were for the next two years...

John Coleman: KUSI Weatherman
John Coleman: KUSI Weatherman
John Coleman is the evening weatherman on independent television station KUSI in San Diego, CA. If Ron Burgundy was a 76-year-old weatherman, you'd have something approaching John. For all his antics, the man knows his stuff. He's been a weatherman for the better part of his adult life in markets across the country, including several years on Good Morning America. With the advent of cable television, he pursued an idea for a channel that was nothing but weather, 24-hours a day. In the early 80's he co-founded and ran The Weather Channel before going back to his day job as a weatherman.

Weatherscan XL version 1 emulator on TV
Weatherscan XL version 1 emulator on TV
Here, I'm running my configured Weatherscan XL version 1 emulator from my computer to my own TV. Our cable system (Comcast) had always never had Weatherscan avaiable on our channel lineup and we never had either the Weatherscan models of the XL and IntelliSTAR, just the main Weather Channel models. Normaly the Trammell Starks song, "Fair Weather" would play as the only song featured in version 1 of Weatherscan. Unlike in later versions of Weatherscan, the one from v.1 only played a shorter version of "Fair Weather" in a endless one minute loop. Some cable systems however had an option to replace the existing music audio with live NOAA Weather Radio audio instead. From my past trips from Panama City, Florida, I remember that their cable system (Comcast), had always used NOAA Weather Radio audio instead of the regular music audio. From what I also remember from my past trips to Panama City, FL, their Weatherscan kept using the old version 1 XL graffics and flavor lineups as late as 2003, while most other Weatherscan XLs at the time aready upgraded to version 2, which came out in 2002. As of 2010, the Panama City, FL Weatherscan now uses the IntelliSTAR from what I found out on my recent trip last summer. The NOAA Weather Radio audio came from a live stream from the Weather Undergound website. The callsign from this station is WXJ71 from Peoria.

The Weather Channel (Excerpt, 1983)
Here is a glimpse back to how the Weather Channel used to look in the early days. Featuring Bill Schubert and Vince Miller. (Unknown anchor at beginning on right) Not sure what the blue bar on the bottom of the screen was supposed to be for... This aired on local Chicago TV on either Friday, July 29 1983 or Monday, August 1st 1983. (kind of conflicting information - date on the screen is the 29th but the anchor references August 1st) Visit - www.FuzzyMemories.TV The Museum of Classic Chicago Television - for more fun!

Prevue Guide / TV Guide Channel Emulation (Deep Forest - Deep Weather)
Prevue Guide / TV Guide Channel Emulation (Deep Forest - Deep Weather)
(OAD: August 25, 2010) Prevue Guide was a cable network which ran on the Amiga platform from 1988 to 1999, and originally started as the Electronic Program Guide in 1981. TV Guide purchased Prevue Channel in 1999 and the Amiga platform was abandoned in favor of a Windows-based system (the yellow grid). This is running under WinUAE Amiga emulator using the actual Prevue Guide software. I added some music ("Deep Weather" by Deep Forest) since I felt it was a little bland without any music. :) Also, check out the Prevue Guide forums at ariweinstein.com where you can learn more about how the Prevue Guide software (both Atari-based and Amiga-based) worked. :D

Winnipeg - Environment Canada weather channel (April 20, 1998)
Unearthed from a videotape: someone accidentally taped channel 9. This is possibily the most watched channel in Winnipeg, as it was shown in 1998. I believe that this channel remained virtually unchanged from 1976 to 1999, before Videon changed their weather channel significantly. In 2001, with the Shaw takeover, the classic interface returned, with updated text and time readouts.
